A Labour of Love There are a myriad of choices available to
pregnant mothers today. Even though birth is an unbelievably amazing,
challenging, awesome and transformative event, in our modern culture, birth is
more complicated than it needs to be.“Being informed helped me
to overcome my fears of birth. I was able to make simple choices that led to an
empowering birth experience. I actually enjoyed the process of giving birth
naturally,” said Diddillibah mother of two, Kate Tully. |

In my clinic, I often see
patients that suffer from heartburn. Especially women during pregnancy know
this as a common discomfort. In a Brazilian study, on
the 42 pregnant women that took part it was proven that by the application of acupuncture
an alleviation of 75% of the heartburn was achieved.
Since there is not always
a suitable therapist on hand, I'd like to give you some tips so that you can
help relieve the symptoms yourself –
Most of the time it helps
to just drink a simple gulp of milk or to eat a little natural, unsweetened
yoghurt. |

The trials and tribulations of the ‘birth plan’.The birth plan has
become an integral part of our modern birth culture. Most women, particular
women wishing for a natural birth, will document what they want and what they
don’t want for their labour and birth. But is it beneficial to do this exercise
(or might we even call it ritual?) and do medical caregivers read them and take
them seriously? Or are women just setting themselves up for failure by thinking
they can control their birth in this manner? |

After much contemplating and thinking and women trusting me enough to allow me , to honour me , to be their midwife, there is this question in my mind about the long latent phase of labour.... With looking after several women in a Continuity of Care Model, you have the great chance to observe the changes in women's bodies whilst pregnant, birthing and in the postnatal phase. As you get this unique opportunity to truly be involved and to develop a better understanding, one often will remember the findings when with women. |

As a Midwife not having been born in Australia, the term of "Freebirth" was something that I forever tried to get my head around . It never accured to me, that women might choose not to have any "trained professional" on their side at the time of birth, the time where many of us experience this extra support as calming and reassuring. So when talking about free birth and thinking about it, I am trying to understand, why women choose it. As this are my own thoughts, please feel free to comment publicly here as comment , or as many of you have done in the past, privately by email. |

It is the time of the month again...next week we will meet once more, to have a chat, ask questions, socialise and support. Anybody is welcome to join, whether expecting a baby, birthed a baby or even just in the midst of thinking about being pregnant. There is no obligation to have been or to be having Jacqui or myself as Midwife. The aim of this group is to facilitate a safe group for women in the community to address their needs around pregnancy, birth, postnatal time, breastfeeding and parenting. |

As I am feeling unwell with a quite unpleasant Tonsillitis and headache, it gives me the time ...once more...to think about things that have been happening recently.
We had exciting days and nights, as we had the honour to support parents welcoming their treasured babies and also when this week our second venue for antenatal checks had its first open day. The Maple St Acupuncture in Cooroy will be the venue for our clinics on Saturday mornings. Our Clinic in Eumundi Medical Centre will also continue and we are grateful for the wonderful support . |

As of now, the Midwifery clinic hours offered currently by myself will be much more flexible. I am very grateful for the Eumundi Family Medical Centre for offering us the opportunity to see women there even if it isn't on the set days. Thank you :)
